THIS IS AN OLD SALVAGED ARCHITECTURAL NEWEL POST, PEDESTAL OR COLUMN WITH A FLAT TOP THAT IS WOOD WITH SOME VERY ORNATE DETAILING. This could easily be a keeper. I love to add posts and columns to any room in my home. This is an older post that is all solid wood and heavy, weighing about 30 pounds. It would be perfect with a statue or plant on top. It has wonderful detailing, including the little fluted columns with capitals. It was painted white at one time that is now chippy, with paint loss, and time worn for a great patina. There are some old cracks, as I show, but it is solid. The back has the unpainted opening where it was removed from the banister, as all newel posts have. A perfect way to add a touch of architectural interest to your room. Great in any shabby chic, Victorian, Antique, romantic cottage or French country home. Measurements are from about 42" tall by 8 3/4" by 8 3/4" It weighs about 30 pounds.
